With more and more devices becoming equipped with IoT technology, smart homes are becoming increasingly popular. The components that make up a smart home are at risk for different types of attacks; therefore, security engineers are developing solutions to current problems and are predicting future types of attacks. This paper will analyze IoT smart home components, explain current security risks, and suggest possible solutions.     Nitrogenous wastes: often overlooked pollutants in aquatic environments

    [Extract] Nitrogenous wastes, including ammonia, nitrite and nitrate, in aquatic systemsoriginate [that is, systems originate] from the runoff of various anthropogenic sources, the decomposition of organic matter and leaching of geological deposits, as well as ammonia being excreted by aquatic animals as a by-product of protein catabolism. To date, most research on these pollutants have been performed from an aquaculture perspective since nitrogenous wastes are a ubiquitous concern under farming conditions. However, they are often overlooked as potential causes for altered distribution and abundance of aquatic animals in the wild, likely due to perceived relatively low levels of nitrogenous wastes in most aquatic ecosystems and the relatively high tolerance of aquatic animals to these pollutants.     Customer Relations Management (CRM) involves attracting and keeping “Economically Valuable” customers while repelling and eliminating “Economically Invaluable” ones. CRM involves changing relationships and improving return-on-investment from customer relationships (ROI-CR.) We are experiencing a shift from a transaction-based economy to a relationship-based one (Keen 1999.) Two important business relationship types exist: those between enterprises and customers; and those between and among enterprises (Kalakota 1996.) This paper addresses the former. However, a there is a significant amount of research into traditional “Market Channels” (See (Bowersox 1990; Ganesan 1994; Syed Saad 1996; Cannon 1999; Geyskens 1999) for examples) as well as into eCommerce (EC) Market Channels (See (Kim 1999; Menon 1999; Son 1999)) Recent and upcoming scholarship and professional activities illustrate the importance the IS Research Community places on CRM.     Journal self-citation and its effect on impact factors is a much more controversial and hotly debated topic than most academics realize. In this paper I present empirical and editorial support that practices and policies of editors, publishers authors and reviewers intended to raise a journal’s impact factors by any means other than publishing the highest quality original work of authors may in fact do more harm than good to the journal and to the academy as a whole. Finally, I echo the call of those that have studied and written on the issue to abandon the practice for the sake of scientific integrity

    An Integrated Model for Personalization, Privacy and Security in eCommerce

    Customers and firms must understand and appreciate one another’s personalization, privacy and security (PPS) vested interests. Customers and enterprises should establish and maintain sufficiently well implemented policies, mechanisms and behaviors to minimize unintended consequences of security breaches that breakdown relationships. An integrated model of personalization, privacy and security from both the customer’s and enterprises point of view is presented. The objective is to assure value exchange appropriate levels of vigilance in both security and privacy but not at the expense of the value derived from personalization. Keywords: Personalization

    Dietary microencapsulated organic acids blend enhances growth, phosphorus utilization, immune response, hepatopancreatic integrity and resistance against Vibrio harveyi in white shrimp, Litopenaeus vannamei

    Research on the effects of organic acid supplementations to the diets of aquacultured animals is receiving increasing global attention as a growth promoter and prophylactic against bacterial pathogens. Three separate experiments were conducted on Pacific white shrimp, Litopenaeus vannamei, when fed diets supplemented with different levels of a microencapsulated organic acids blend (OAB) at 0% (control), 1%, 2%, or 4%. The first experiment was performed to examine the growth performance, phenoloxidase (PO) activity, total presumptive Vibrio spp. colony forming units (CFU) in the hepatopancreas and histology of the hepatopancreas of the post larvae (PL 36) shrimp (initial weight 0.123 ± 0.010 g) fed these diets after 50 days. Results showed shrimp fed the 2% OAB diet had significantly higher (P 0.05). In the second experiment, dry matter and phosphorus digestibility was measured and results showed the 2% OAB diet led to significantly better digestibility than the control treatment. For the third experiment, the resistance of the shrimp to Vibrio harveyi was investigated over 10 days and subsequent effects to PO activity and hepatopancreatic histopathology determined. Results demonstrated that the 1% and 2% OAB diets led to significantly higher survival than those fed the control or 4% OAB diet. PO activity was significantly higher for shrimp fed the OAB supplemented diets as well showing less hepatopancreatic damage. These findings indicate that the OAB used can substantially improve productivity and resistance to pathogenic bacteria and may be a viable alternative to the use of antibiotics in the shrimp industry.
